The New Zealand Government has announced an increase in the visa duration for workers in ANZSCO Level 4 and 5 roles under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). Starting March 2025, new AEWVs issued for these roles will be valid for three years, aligning with the maximum continuous stay permitted for these workers.
Key Changes:
- New Visa Duration: AEWV holders in Level 4 and 5 roles will now receive a 3-year visa, replacing the current 2-year visa with an additional 1-year extension option.
- Existing Visa Holders: Migrants currently on 2-year AEWVs can apply for a further 1-year visa if they meet eligibility requirements.
Why the Change?
This update responds to feedback from businesses and industry stakeholders, streamlining the process and reducing uncertainty for both employers and workers. By aligning visa duration with the maximum stay limit, the policy simplifies workforce planning and strengthens worker retention.
How does this benefit employers and migrants?
- Employers: Greater continuity and stability in retaining skilled workers.
- Migrants: More predictable and extended work rights, reducing the need for frequent renewals.
