Government Implements Changes to AEWV Scheme to Speed Up Processing Times

The New Zealand Government has introduced further changes to streamline the processing of Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) applications. Starting Wednesday, 20 November 2024, employers will be required to confirm that staff involved in recruitment decisions for AEWV holders have completed the Employment New Zealand learning modules. Employers must also ensure that migrant workers are given paid time to complete these modules. However, the Government has simplified the process by removing the need for employers to provide evidence of module completion when renewing their accreditation. Immigration authorities may request further evidence if needed.

These adjustments are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of the AEWV scheme and improve processing times for employers. By grouping similar applications and assigning them to dedicated teams, the Government aims to ensure quicker and more streamlined decisions, helping employers secure the workers they need within a reasonable timeframe.

Looking ahead, additional changes are being considered for the next stage of the AEWV scheme review. These may include the removal of the requirement to submit an employment agreement with a Job Check application and the completion of Employment New Zealand modules.

Despite these improvements, immigration officials continue to stress the importance of submitting complete applications. Incomplete submissions remain a significant cause of delays, and such applications may be declined if all required information is not provided upfront.
