To simplify processes for employers and Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) holders during business sales or restructures, the New Zealand Government has announced important updates to accreditation and Job Check requirements.
Key Changes Effective 6 November 2024
1. Job Change Requirement for AEWV Holders:
If an AEWV holder’s employer changes due to a business sale or restructure, but they remain in the same role and location, they will need to apply for a Job Change.
2. Flexibility for New Employers:
If the new employer has already applied for accreditation when Immigration New Zealand receives the worker’s Job Change application, the Job Change can be approved before the employer’s accreditation application is finalized.
- A Job Check will not be required if the AEWV holder’s role or work location remains unchanged.
3. High-Volume Accreditation for Larger Employers:
- AEWV holders transferring to a new employer after a sale or restructure will count towards the new employer’s quota of five AEWV employees under standard accreditation.
- Employers exceeding this quota should apply for high-volume accreditation before the migrant workers submit their Job Change applications.
Streamlined Processes for Businesses
These changes aim to improve processing efficiency and reduce disruptions for both employers and AEWV holders during business transitions. They align with ongoing efforts to optimize the AEWV framework and ensure it meets the needs of New Zealand’s workforce and employers.
Why This Matters
By easing accreditation and Job Check requirements, the Government is helping businesses navigate sales and restructures smoothly, while ensuring migrant workers can continue to contribute to the workforce without undue delays.
